WU Wien and CHSH present the “LAWard 2009”

“And the CHSH LAWard 2009 goes to ...” CHSH Cerha Hempel Spiegelfeld Hlawati has answered this question for the first time in cooperation with the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Wien). With a total prize fund of €3,500, the CHSH Best Thesis Award (LAWard 2009) is presented to those students who have written the best dissertations on the subject of commercial law. The official award ceremony took place on Wednesday evening, followed by a lecture and then a podium discussion with Professor Winner, Chairman of the Austrian Takeover Commission.

As an international corporate law firm, CHSH aims to support high-quality education and practical legal training and to support those students and graduates who have shown themselves to be particularly gifted and talented individuals. The winners of this year’s LAWard were selected by a panel of judges, headed by Professor Christoph Grabenwarter (Institute for Austrian and European Public Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business) and consisting of Dr. Clemens Hasenauer, LL.M. (partner at CHSH), Professor Rudolf Welser (University of Vienna) and Professor Georg Kodek, LL.M. (Civil and Corporate Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business).

The winners of the LAWard 2009 are: Martina Almhofer and Peter Komenda (for their undergraduate dissertations), Franziska Paefgen (Master’s thesis) and Mag. Angelika Hable, LL.M. (PhD thesis). “The jury was positively surprised by the quality of the winning entries and the way in which the subjects were treated. We are pleased to present the LAWard to the winners in recognition of their excellent work”, said Hasenauer.

Podium discussion: “Takeover Law and the Economic Crisis”

After the official award ceremony, Univ.-Prof. Mag. Dr. Martin Winner (Institute for Civil and Corporate Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business) gave a lecture on the subject of “Takeover Law and the Economic Crisis”, followed by a discussion with Christoph Grabenwarter and Clemens Hasenauer. “We were delighted to have secured Professor Winner, Chairman of the Takeover Commission, to give this exciting lecture. The subsequent podium discussion also demonstrated the fact that the challenges for the M&A sector are enormous at times of economic crisis,” said Clemens Hasenauer summing up, Head of the Corporate Transactions Department at CHSH.
