Updated, expanded, and presented in a practical manner: the section on external audits of banks in Austria in the BWG (Austrian Banking Act) Commentary (edited by Laurer/M. Schütz/Kammel/Ratka, MANZ Publishing, Vienna) has comprehensively been revised and updated by CERHA HEMPEL partner Peter Knobl to reflect the current state of the law as of July 2026.

The revised edition takes into account the Austrian Act on Sustainability Reporting 2026 as well as the Omnibus Directive on Sustainability Reporting (EU) 2026/470 and includes a preview of the changes expected as a result of the implementation of CRD VI in the BWG regarding external audits of banks. It thus addresses current regulatory and other legal developments, including rulings by the highest courts, and offers sound guidance for practice.
Particular emphasis is placed on a clear and systematic presentation of the interpretive challenges relevant to bank audits. New developments at the sub-statutory level and in regulatory and auditing practice have been considered.

With this revised edition, the currently only updated, further reliable and practice-focused commentary on the BWG’s external bank auditing regulations—as of July 2026—is now available, offering valuable support to auditors, credit institutions, attorneys, consultants and other professionals involved in external bank audits of banks.
