Cerha Hempel has advised the shareholders of ELIN Motoren GmbH, the Austrian electric motor manufacturer, on the sale of a 70% stake in the company to the Voith technology group.

ELIN Motoren GmbH produces electric motors and generators on a small and large scale and provides individual solutions for industrial applications. In this respect, ELIN Motoren GmbH focuses on manufacturing electric machines, low and medium voltage motors and generators, in particular for wind energy and decentralised energy systems. With its product portfolio, ELIN Motoren GmbH serves the following target markets: wind energy, plastics, tunnelling and mining, oil and gas, plant engineering, and power plants.

Cerha Hempel has been advising the shareholders of ELIN Motoren GmbH since the company's takeover in 2002 and has advised the company on its expansion into the Hungarian market. Lead Counsel for the seller, Johannes Aehrenthal, is pleased to have negotiated a viable agreement just before the end of the year so ELIN Motoren GmbH can continue to enjoy success in the years to come as part of a technology group with global operations, and so new sales opportunities and markets open up to it to which it did not previously have access.

The transaction is, amongst other things, still subject to the approval of the competent competition authorities.

The team at Cerha Hempel advising on the transaction included:

Dr. Johannes Aehrenthal (Lead Counsel, Partner, Corporate), Dr. Bernhard Kofler-Senoner (Partner, Merger Control), Mag. Jakob Hartig (Attorney, Corporate), Mag. Florian Mitterer (Associate, Corporate), Mag. Michaela Kober (Associate, Corporate), Dr. Michael Mayer (Attorney, Merger Control)
