Global Digital Asset Forum Vienna: Regulating Innovation

How does supervisory practice shape the innovation landscape?
This question was explored by Prof. Christian Piska (Universität Wien) during our event “MiCA & Asset-Referenced Tokens: Design, Risks and Market Reality.”

His presentation focused on the impact of regulatory and supervisory practices on innovation in the digital assets sector. In particular, he examined the tension between the objectives of the MiCA framework – harmonisation, legal certainty, and the promotion of innovation – and the practical challenges arising from differing regulatory approaches, interpretative discretion, and the application of regulatory requirements by supervisory authorities.

The event took place as part of ViennaUP Week and the Global Digital Asset Forum Vienna and was jointly organised by CERHA HEMPEL and the DAAA | Digital Assets Association Austria. It provided a platform for discussing current developments in the European regulatory framework for digital assets and their implications for market participants.
