CERHA HEMPEL Partner Anna Wolf-Posch co-organised second conference of D-A-CH Kartellrechtsforum in Göttingen

With the Digital Markets Act (DMA), the EU is undertaking antitrust regulation of certain key players (gatekeepers) in digital markets. This is associated with a paradigm shift: There is no longer reliance on traditional antitrust enforcement alone, but an additional regulatory approach.

With the Digital Markets Act (DMA), the EU is undertaking antitrust regulation of certain key players (gatekeepers) in digital markets. This is associated with a paradigm shift: There is no longer reliance on traditional antitrust enforcement alone, but an additional regulatory approach. The DMA raises many important issues and questions because of its multiple interactions with the other components of EU digital regulation as well as areas of law outside antitrust (data law, intellectual property law, contract law, etc.).

The 2022 annual conference of the "D-A-CH Kartellrechtsforum" on 29 April 2022 at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen has taken this as an opportunity to examine the DMA in detail and critically from various perspectives. Representatives from the fields of law, economics, public authorities and the legal profession met in Göttingen and remotely. Our partner, Anna Wolf-Posch is co-founder of the D-A-CH Kartellrechtsforum and co-organised this year's conference together with Eckart Bueren (Universität Göttingen) and Peter Georg Picht (Universität Zürich).

The speakers included Prof. Dr. Rupprecht Podszun (Chair of Civil Law, German and European Competition Law and Director of the Institute for Antitrust Law at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf), Prof. Dr. Gerald Spindler (Chair of Civil Law, Commercial and Business Law, Comparative Law, Multimedia and Telecommunications Law at Georg August University Göttingen), Prof. Dr. Paul Heidhues (Professor of Behavioural and Competition Economics at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf), Prof. Dr. Fiona Scott-Morton (Theodore Nierenberg Professor of Economics at Yale University School of Management), Thomas Kramler (Head of the Unit dealing with e-commerce and the data economy in the European Commission's Directorate-General for Competition), Dr. Sebastian Wismer (Head of the Digital Economy Unit, Federal Cartel Office), Mag. Alexandra Ivanova (Case Handler, Federal Competition Authority Austira), Prof. Dr. Andreas Heinemann (President Competition Commission, University of Zurich), Dr. Monique Sturny (Partner at Walder Wyss), Dr. Alexander Birnstiel, LL.M. (Partner at Noerr), Prof. Dr. Thomas Höppner, LL.M. (Dundee) (Partner at Hausfeld Rechtsanwälte LLP), Michael Neuber (Government Affairs and Public Policy Senior Manager, Google) and Johannes Kotte (CEO Ladenzeile.de).
