Dr. Edith Hlawati, Senior Partner at CHSH Cerha Hempel Spiegelfeld Hlawati Rechtsanwälte GmbH, has been awarded the prestigious IFLR Lifetime Achievement Award. IFLR (International Financial Law Review) – the internationally renowned reference work for attorneys – presents this prestigious award to attorneys who it has singled out for particular praise because their work and achievements have had a significant influence and lasting effect on the international legal community. The Lifetime Achievement Award is the greatest honour that can be bestowed on attorneys in recognition of their work in the field of law.
Amelie Labbé (IFLR Managing Editor) presented the award to Dr. Edith Hlawati at an awards ceremony held in London on 19 April 2018.
According to the statement announcing the award: "Edith Hlawati has been a partner in her firm since 1987, and today she continues to mentor young lawyers and lead the firm’s banking and corporate finance department. She has been a driving force in expanding the firm in Austria and across six Central and East European markets. She is widely acknowledged as a leading figure in Austria’s capital markets. In her practice as a corporate and capital markets lawyer, she has led on most of Austria’s privatisation projects. Her work includes all manner of acquisitions and takeovers and debt and equity capital markets transactions. She is one of very few female chairs in listed companies and currently chairs the supervisory boards of Austria’s postal company and the Austrian electricity and gas regulation authority".
Dr. Edith Hlawati has therefore been presented with the award for her outstanding achievements in driving forward the development of the firm, her expertise as a recognised corporate law and capital markets specialist, her first-class track record, and her fostering of young talent. Dr. Hlawati has made a significant contribution to the growth of the firm in Austria and in six CEE countries. In her time at the firm, CHSH has gone from having just four partners and 10 employees to having 23 partners and a team numbering 135 in total. CHSH is one of the leading corporate law firms in Austria and CEE.
Dr. Hlawati has many years’ experience as a member of the supervisory boards of companies listed on the ATX of the Vienna stock exchange and of chairing such boards. She is currently the chairwoman of the supervisory boards of Ӧsterreichische Post AG and Energie-Control Austria.
Dr. Hlawati is the first Austrian attorney to receive this award. Previous recipients include Andrew Carmichael (Linklaters), Mark Sterling (Allen & Overy), Antonio Garrigues Walker (Garrigues), Kate Craven (ICMA), Lachlan Burn (Linklaters) and Philip Wood (Allen & Overy). CHSH was named IFLR "Austrian Law Firm of the Year" in 2004, 2005 and 2010.
