The antitrust team at CHSH successfully advised STRABAG during the course of and in connection with merger control proceedings before the European Commission concerning the creation of a joint venture with EW4E, a company belonging to the publicly listed GDF SUEZ energy and environment group which has operations worldwide.

The team was able to obtain the necessary merger approval from the European Commission within a very short time frame.

The joint venture, Biomasseverwertung Großwilfersdorf, is in the process of constructing a facility in Styria (Austria) for the thermal utilisation of sewage sludge. The ecological flagship project will go into operation in 2012 and will have a capacity of 24,000 tonnes of sewage sludge per year, which corresponds to the waste produced by approximately 300,000 residents.

In addition to Bernhard Kofler-Senoner, the CHSH antitrust team was comprised of Jürgen Edtbauer and Bernhard Seedoch.
