Regulation (EU) 2021/1975

On 12 November 2021, the European Commission authorised the placing on the market of frozen, dried and powder forms of Locusta migratoria (migratory locust) as a novel food. It is the second insect species to receive such authorisation. Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/1975 was published in the Official Journal on 15 November 2021. A previous applicant had received authorisation to place Tenebrio molitor larva (yellow mealworm) on the market under the Novel Food regulations. Further information from the European Commission is available here.
