Amendment of the Food Safety and Consumer Protection Act

Federal Law Gazette I 256/2021

The Food Safety and Consumer Protection Act and the Health and Food Security Act were both amended by Federal Law Gazette I 256/2021.Some of the new provisions entered into force on 1 January 2022, whereas others took effect on 22 February 2022. In particular, the amendment transposed into Austrian law the control provisions that were introduced by Regulation (EU) 2017/625 and the Delegated Regulations based on that regulation. In addition to numerous other changes, for example, the supervisory measures under Section 39 of the Food Safety and Consumer Protection Act were expanded, a monitoring power of the Federal Office of Consumer Health was established regarding the online trade in foodstuffs, and administrative penalties were reduced.
